Pelvic Floor
At igniteKIDS, we are dedicated to helping and guiding you and your child through natural and effective solutions for pelvic health concerns. Our goal is to partner with families to provide the support and solutions needed to address these issues.
Does Your Child Need Pelvic Health Rehab?
Your child may benefit from our specialized pelvic health rehabilitation if they experience any of the following:
Prolapse
This can occur when the child’s rectum protrudes through the anal sphincter and is outside the body. It can be a result of the ligaments and muscles becoming weakened from problems such as chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea, or straining while going to the bathroom. At igniteKIDS we can help your child get better and find solutions to this issue.
Post Operative Care
Reconstructive surgeries to help correct or improve congenital colorectal, bladder, and pelvic floor dysfunction can be a big step to help restore bowel and bladder function. Pediatric pelvic floor therapy is an important part in helping to restore muscle function and getting a child back to their daily activities of play. At igniteKIDS we can help your child get better, recover from surgery, and get back to the things they like to do.
Pelvic Pain
There can be many different reason’s a child may have pelvic pain and it can be chronic and acute. Some of the reasons could be constipation, pelvic floor muscle spasms, musculoskeletal pain such as an injury to bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves, irritated bladder, and menstrual issues. At igniteKIDS we work to get to the bottom of your child’s pelvic pain and provide solutions to help them get better.
Constipation or Encopresis
Struggling with regular bowel movements or experiencing accidents and leakage.
Constipation can cause significant discomfort and lead to encopresis, a condition where impacted stool leaks out, causing soiling. This can be distressing for children and may affect their self-esteem and daily activities. Our team provides tailored strategies to help manage constipation and prevent encopresis, ensuring your child can maintain regular bowel movements and avoid accidents.
Pain and Strains During Bowel Movements
Experiencing discomfort or difficulty while passing stools.
Painful bowel movements can be a sign of underlying issues such as anal fissures, hemorrhoids, or severe constipation. This pain can cause a child to avoid using the bathroom, leading to further complications. At igniteKIDS, we address the root causes of this pain, offering treatments and guidance to make bowel movements more comfortable and less stressful for your child.
Difficulty Recognizing Bowel Movements
Inability to tell when they are having a bowel movement.
Some children may struggle with sensory awareness related to their bowel movements, making it hard for them to recognize when they need to go to the bathroom. This can lead to accidents and embarrassment. Our therapists work with children to improve their body awareness and develop better cues for recognizing when they need to use the restroom.
Frequent Accidents
Having difficulty making it to the bathroom on time, leading to accidents.
Frequent accidents can be frustrating and upsetting for both children and parents. These may occur due to a variety of reasons, including overactive bladder, constipation, or neurological issues. We provide comprehensive assessments to identify the underlying causes and create effective intervention plans to help your child gain better control over their bladder and bowel functions.
Leaking During Activities
Experiencing leakage while playing sports, laughing, or engaging in other physical activities.
Physical activities such as sports or even simple actions like laughing can sometimes cause urinary leakage. This is often due to stress incontinence, where pressure on the bladder during physical exertion leads to leaks. Our pelvic health programs include exercises and techniques to strengthen pelvic floor muscles, reducing or eliminating leakage during these activities.
Bedwetting
Bedwetting, or nocturnal enuresis, is common in young children but can become concerning if it persists beyond age 5. It can affect a child’s confidence and interfere with social activities like sleepovers. At igniteKIDS, we explore the reasons behind persistent bedwetting and offer solutions ranging from behavioral strategies to medical interventions to help your child stay dry through the night.
Irregular Bathroom Use
Using the bathroom more than 8 times a day or less than 3 times a day.
Frequent or infrequent bathroom use can indicate underlying health issues such as urinary tract infections, overactive bladder, and under active bladder or constipation. Both extremes can disrupt a child’s daily life and cause discomfort. Our approach includes thorough evaluations to determine the cause of irregular bathroom habits and implementing personalized treatment plans to normalize your child’s bathroom routine.
